{"id":2263,"date":"2024-04-18T19:39:58","date_gmt":"2024-04-18T19:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ibadanradio.com.ng\/blog\/?p=2263"},"modified":"2024-04-18T19:40:03","modified_gmt":"2024-04-18T19:40:03","slug":"efcc-declares-yahaya-bello-wanted-over-alleged-n80-2b-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ibadanradio.com.ng\/blog\/2024\/04\/18\/efcc-declares-yahaya-bello-wanted-over-alleged-n80-2b-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"EFCC Declares Yahaya Bello Wanted Over Alleged N80.2b Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Yahaya Bello wanted for an alleged financial crime to the tune of N80.2 billion.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nigeria\u2019s anti-corruption agency called on those with vital information about the former Kogi governor\u2019s whereabouts to reach the commission or the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFormer Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is wanted by the EFCC for offences relating to economic and financial crimes to the tune of N80.2 Billion,\u201d the EFCC said in a Thursday evening post on its Facebook page it captioned \u2018Ex-Gov Yahaya Bello Wanted By the EFCC\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnybody with information as to his whereabouts should report immediately to the Commission or the nearest police Station.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"370\" height=\"525\" src=\"https:\/\/ibadanradio.com.ng\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/EFCC-Yahaya-Bello.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2264\" style=\"width:365px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ibadanradio.com.ng\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/EFCC-Yahaya-Bello.jpg 370w, https:\/\/ibadanradio.com.ng\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/EFCC-Yahaya-Bello-211x300.jpg 211w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 370px) 100vw, 370px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The declaration is the latest in the tussle between Bello and the anti-crime agency.&nbsp; The chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was absent earlier in the day at the Federal High Court in Abuja for a suit instituted against him by the EFCC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This forced Justice Emeka Nwite to adjourn the suit and for substituted service and possible arraignment of Bello for alleged money laundering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before then, fiery-looking EFCC operatives stormed the former Kogi leader\u2019s residence in the Wuse area of Abuja, attempting to arrest Bello for arraignment. Despite the siege, which lasted hours, the agency could not arrest the former governor whom it claimed was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/2024\/04\/17\/yahaya-bello-whisked-away-by-governor-ododo-says-efcc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cwhisked away\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;by his successor Usman Ododo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>EFCC<\/strong> roundly\u00a0condemned the move, describing it as an attempt to frustrate the agency\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the face of the heated battle, Bello\u2019s Media Office a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/2024\/04\/18\/yahaya-bellos-media-office-accuses-efcc-of-abusing-prosecutorial-powers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ccused the anti-corruption agency of a witchhunt<\/a>&nbsp;against its principal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLooking at the curious and endless scenarios of duplicated charges, cross-charges, counter and frivolous charges by the <strong>EFCC<\/strong> against <strong>former Governor Yahaya Bello<\/strong>, it has become crystal clear that the whole onslaught is nothing but a desperate political witch-hunt of the immediate past Governor of Kogi State,\u201d his media office said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bello and EFCC\u2019s tussle has also seen the issuance of conflicting orders by the courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice I.
